Do you find that you are quite often suffering from headaches. They make you want to lie down and rest, they can cause extreme fatigue and nausea and seriously disrupt your day. If they go on for a prolonged amount of time then they can seriously be detrimental to your health and life style.
But how can you stop getting these headaches if you do not know what the causes for them are. Quite a lot of the time they may seem to come on all of a sudden, or you may find that they are actually slow and gradually building, but you do not know how you can possibly get rid of them. There are two main types of headache - the tension headache, and the cluster type headache - both of which have different causes.
Tension and cluster headaches are two types of headaches which most people suffer from. They differ in various ways, having both different causes and different symptoms.
With Tension headaches most of the pain will occur throughout the day, usually a dull throbbing which occurs in the head or behind the eyes. With a cluster type headache however, you will find that this can be a chronic condition which can occur daily.
The causes of headaches are still unknown. But this does not mean that doctors do not have an idea of what can cause these headaches to come on the sufferer. Starting with tension type headaches, often some causes are squinting when reading, or painkiller overuse.
By over using pain killers, it can actually give you a headache rather than take it away. The body begins to get dependent upon the painkillers and so when it does not have them it can go into withdrawal mode, actually causing the headache. This is the same with stress. When we are under stress, quite often one of the bodies way of telling us is to give you a headache.
Cluster headaches do not have the same effect as tension type headaches. These are caused quite fast, and so can be quite painful, more so than any other type of headache. These are often caused by things which are instantaneous and cause a reaction that is so too. Eventually this headache will go away, usually a little after the cause is removed.
Of course, although the main causes of headaches are not conclusively known, most people will know what seems to bring on their headaches most. This could be anything from stress, or from travelling out into the sunlight. If you find that you get a headache when you go out into the sun, you may need to see your doctor because you could be light sensitive, which will cause headaches.
Although the data is not conclusive there are two other causes of headaches which can be treated quite easily, but need to be diagnosed by your doctor. If you suffer from headaches after going out into the sun or being in a strong light, then you may be light sensitive and simply wearing sunglasses can help to stop this.
Similarly, should you keep getting headaches after you have been reading for a while, or even for a short amount of time. Or after you have been watching the television, then you should go and see your optician, as you may require glasses, and not using then can cause severe headaches.
