Alcohol leaves the body in three ways; the first is by the lungs which account for five percent and is the reason law enforcement agencies use breathalysers to test motorists. Another five percent is handled by the kidneys where it is excreted through the urine.
The bulk of the alcohol is handled by the liver which breaks it down into acetic acid, otherwise known as vinegar; this can be broken down further into carbon dioxide and water.
