Alcohol Dependence, Do You Need Help?

What is Alcohol Dependence? An abnormal reliance on alcohol that seriously affects a person's daily life and work.

It exists when there is a craving for drink, when increasing amounts of alcohol achieve the same level of intoxication, and side effects occur when drinking is stopped.

Symptoms: Drinking taking priority over other things, withdrawal symptoms such as tremors, sweating and agitation.

How can you help yourself ? Limit your weekly intake of alcohol to 14 units for women (a unit is a small glass of wine or single spirit shot), and avoid drinking lots in one session.

When to see your doctor? If you answer yes to two or more of the following: have you ever felt you should cut down your drinking? have people annoyed you by criticising your drinking? have you ever felt guilty about it? Have you ever drunk first thing in the morning to get rid of hangover?
